Ice damming in the Hudson Valley is an on again off again problem for home owners. Some winters bring little in the way of snow and ice, other winters bring feet of snow that builds up on roofs and ices in gutters and downspouts. When it comes to discussing outdated equipment, the number one offender in the Mid Hudson Valley is Federal Pacific Corp.  This company no longer exists, but their equipment lives on and is still installed in many homes and businesses in the region.  

Of course, there are many companies out there with outdated stuff, but the Federal equipment has the distinction of being both illegal and dangerous.

I think it can be safely stated that electrical equipment these days is pretty rock solid. And that goes for just about every supplier, from Square D to GE. In large part, we can thank safety standards and electrical codes. And time has passed in the industry, bringing these advances along as product improvements.
