Power factor problems really start when there are a lot of motors on the system. Harmonics are also a factor in motors, but more so in electronics. Large houses today have a lot of both. This is especially compounded with Geo-Thermal heating and cooling systems. One house we did not long ago had 15 Air Handler units. Power Factor is one of those topics that made my eyes glaze as an apprentice reading the trade mags. I knew it was important, but it was years before I saw just how far reaching its effects can be.
