When it comes to discussing outdated equipment, the number one offender in the Mid Hudson Valley is Federal Pacific Corp. This company no longer exists, but their equipment lives on and is still installed in many homes and businesses in the region.
Of course, there are many companies out there with outdated stuff, but the Federal equipment has the distinction of being both illegal and dangerous.

I think it can be safely stated that electrical equipment these days is pretty rock solid. And that goes for just about every supplier, from Square D to GE. In large part, we can thank safety standards and electrical codes. And time has passed in the industry, bringing these advances along as product improvements.

Most folks don't worry about their electric meter. But if you have an A-Frame meter, utility companies have you on a list for retiring it. That means if you have to do any work to maintain your electrical service, like fix a leak, replace a worn cable drop or deal with similar wear related issues, they will make you replace the entire service.
