How big a generator should I get?  We get this question a lot, and if you read the section on power factor you know that you probably need more power than you think.  But having said that, the answer is usually pretty easy to arrive at.  Essentially what you are looking for are the necessary loads in the event of an outage, like heat, water and refrigeration, plus some extras like lighting.
